Poverty and its Alleviating Strategies among Rural Farming Households in Benue State, Nigeria

The study analysed rural farming households’ poverty status and alleviating strategies in Benue State, Nigeria. specific objectives of the were to: describes household heads’ socio-economic characteristics; determine respondents its determinants; identify respondents. Data for was collected from 420 selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. descriptive statistics, Foster-Greer-Thorbecke measurement index, Binary Logistic regression model. findings revealed very high incidence (70%), having gap 0.34, severity 0.17. Poverty area is positively associated with age head size, while gender, educational level, off-farm activity, membership group, farm land ownership are negatively poverty. common alleviation identified agricultural wage labour (48.6%), rental services (45.0%), transportation business (36.7%). Therefore, it recommended that government other stakeholders should initiate sustainable social protection schemes can assist residents until their condition improves.
